Maudelle (Sis) Larkin - 04/15/1909 - 06/10/2006
This page is in memory of Maudelle (Sis) Larkin. You may have already read a little about her from the history page.
Maudelle was a 1927 graduate of the Har-Brack High School. She worked for the A&P Tea Company in Pittsburgh, McCools Restaurant, the Rose Flower Shop and Eureka Community Ambulance Service.

Maudelle married Kenneth J. Larkin (who among other offices served as the president of Eureka for 38 years) in 1934 and they moved into their Lock Street home on the corner of Third Avenue.

Sis was the sole dispatcher for the ambulance service when it was founded in 1936 and remained the dispatcher, manager and bookkeeper until 1986. 50 years of service.

As of 1967, Eureka was averaging about 700 trips per year. Because she would answer the phone day or night, the Western PA Firemen's Convention described her as the "Angel of the Ambulance".

When she had the time, Maudelle was also active in her church and other community organizations. But she always gave priority to Eureka.

Maudelle passed away while at Fairwinds Manor in Winfield Township at the age of 97.
