281 Squrt was 1969 Ford with a 50' articulating boom. After about 38 years of service with 1 refurb, this truck has been retired.
Below is the Squrt in more of it's "hey day" near the Acme. Now that's an old picture!
As stated on page 2, Eureka's origins go back to 1886 and Independant Pump & Hose Company with the original house located about 2 blocks up the street at 3rd Avenue and Corbet.
In 1915, Eureka bought Pierce Arrow touring car and converted it into a motorized fire vehicle.
Again, there have been a lot of changes over the past several years. Including the Tarentum Fire Department (Highland, Eureka and Summit) being awarded an ISO Class 4 rating.
The ISO (Insurance Services Office) is a leading supplier of information about risk and has an effect on the insurance premiums paid on residential and commercial properties within the borough.
The ISO gathers data based on the fire houses, equipment, training, testing, response, personnel and water supply then assigns a Public Protection Classification (PPC).
After a PPC is based on a scale of 1-10. Class 1 means exemplary protection and Class 10 means minimum standards are not met.
